Retrofit Solutions

Trade Engine offers a comprehensive range of service packages that enable organisations to implement a quality management framework across their existing processes and systems, delivering projects to the requirements of the PAS 2035 standard. This includes the delivery of Government-funded retrofit programmes.

Our background is as a provider of Quality Management Systems, training, consultancy and certification support. We developed the first electronic QMS and workflow software to implement the PAS 2030 standard, later expanding to offer practical research-led solutions to the problem of scalable and verifiable retrofit delivery.

These include numerous retrofit training courses, software and in-house teams to support delivery to the PAS 2035 standard, and accessing energy efficiency funding for our clients.

Whole-House Retrofit

Retrofit involves the planning, design and installation of energy efficiency measures within existing buildings to reduce their energy demand. In the UK, this process is specified by the PAS 2035 standard, which introduces new roles, responsibilities and procedures to allow this to happen in a standardised, repeatable and verifiable manner.

It is estimated that 27 million properties in the UK will require some form of retrofit intervention by 2030 in order for the UK's net-zero targets to be met. This is a significant undertaking and requires an holistic approach.

Trade Engine's expertise in PAS 2035 delivery and quality management allows us to offer a portfolio of retrofit services, which can be tailored to support individual householders as well as housing associations and local authorities.

PAS 2035 Retrofit Services

Every dwelling in the UK is different, even those of identical archetype, and therefore the requirements of retrofit differ across projects. Trade Engine has invested significantly in the development of workflow systems which allow Retrofit Coordinators to follow the PAS 2035 process, whilst capturing all relevant bespoke detail requirements.

We offer a complete and integrated suite of retrofit support services for whole-house retrofit projects and programmes, underpinned by our Quality Management System. The PAS 2035 project lifecycle includes:

  • Retrofit Advice, followed by a formal Retrofit Assessment
  • Energy modelling from assessment data using tools such as SAP or PHPP
  • Retrofit Coordination and Design
  • Planning, Project Management and installation oversight
  • Post-installation monitoring, evaluation and feedback

Our approach can be tailored to meet the requirements of individual householders as well as scheme-based work. Our pricing follows a fully-transparent rate card model.

Energy Efficiency Funding

As a PAS 2030 certified and TrustMark registered installer in our own right, Trade Engine have delivered under numerous Government-funded energy efficiency programmes for the past 8 years.

A wide range of funding opportunities exist to support whole-house retrofit. Schemes such as the Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) or the Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) can be accessed by eligible households to subsidise or even fully-fund packages of energy efficiency improvements.

Trade Engine are able to administer and deliver the funded installation of qualifying measures for qualifying homes. We operate a framework contracting solution, which allows individual installers to work together to deliver packages of energy efficiency measures in a coherent fashion. All projects are supervised by our in-house Quality Manager, administered using our systems, and carry the required levels of consumer and financial protection.

We take a fabric-first approach in all our work to maximise both energy savings and consumer benefit.

ISO Management Systems & Consulting

Our day-to-day activities see us engage with a large number of businesses that are focused on achieving or maintaining various professional certifications or accreditations. Whilst these are often specific to the retrofit sector, in some cases our clients wish us to further assist them with broader certifications such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001 or ISO 27001. Our QMS platforms can be configured to achieve this in an integrated manner.

Our team includes ISO Lead Auditors for a suite of standards, all of whom have had long careers in delivering conformance and continual process improvement. We can assist with management system implementation, process and procedure development and deployment, internal auditing, and the provision of software tools and platforms to fully-integrate these into organisations in a traceable fashion.
